Dippity-Do Men: The Return of the Mack

October 16, 2017 by admin

If you are anywhere between the age of 18 and 40, I can almost guarantee that you remember the iconic Gel by Dippity-Do. This was the go-to hair product back when Gel was the way to go…

Fast forward to today, the world of men’s grooming has completely evolved and now, men care, more than ever, about the way they look. Actually, this is the reason why my Instagram and Blog exists. In fact, men’s grooming is now the fastest-growing segment in the beauty industry!! Can you believe this? Well, I do… which is why I spend at least 30 minutes a day styling my hair and grooming my beard lol

Dippity-Do, being the powerhouse of a brand that they are, is catering to this demand by introducing three new products:

  • Grooming Creme
  • Texture Paste
  • 3-in-1 Styling Pomade

I’ve been asked to review the 3 products (probably because I have fantastic hair but who knows :P). I’ve described my experience below:

Grooming Creme

First of all, I’d like to note that these are all pretty big containers weighing 180 g of product. However, that doesn’t mean you need to apply more to get the desired effect. I would recommend applying two fingertips worth of product. With this particular model, the creme-ish texture of product doesn’t hold on to short hair quite like a paste and as a result, I found it would be better suited for longer hair. I found that it didn’t hold my hair as strong as I’d typically like it to but that is typically due to the type of hair I have (which is pretty much an afro).

As far as the shine, I’d say it’s in between a pomade (very shiny) and paste (no shine). I’d definitely recommend this product to someone who has long and fine hair.  By the way, the product smells quite delicious due to the coconut oil in its ingredients. You can see below exactly what the product looks like on my hair.

Texture Paste

Now we’re talking! I’d definitely say that this model is more geared towards short-haired gents like myself. In this case, I applied the same amount of paste (2 fingertips) but found that it was able to control my short hair more than the Grooming Creme. The paste would really go in between my hair and allow me to shape my hair using my hands. I can also tell, based on the texture of the product, that this particular model would be applicable to almost any hair type as long it is on the shorter end. Due to careful selection of ingredients including Argan Oil and Sesame Seed Oil, the product doesn’t feel heavy when applied.

As far as the shine, there is definitely some shine as it’s not completely matte. To be honest, this is my preferred level of shine given today’s trends in hair styling. You can see exactly what this product looks in my hair below:

3-in-1 Style Pomade

If Elvis Presley was alive today, I think he would be the Styling Pomade’s number one fan! Of course, the reason why I bring this up is that Elvis’ epic haircut has now returned to fashion; hence why a pomade product has been so popular. The Styling Pomade is intended for the “slick back look” which, I must admit, is pretty gangsta. It has high-shine, high control and a whole lot of moisture (thanks to the Argan Oil, Olive Oil and Shea Butter)! On the other hand, the hold isn’t as strong as the Texture Paste due to the look it is trying to achieve. With this product, you can run your hands through your hair after the product has been applied and need not worry.

I would recommend using up to 3 fingertips worth of product and applying when dry or towel dry. In my case, I cannot apply products unless my hair is fully dry because I straighten my hair with a blowdryer. See below for my “slick back look”:

3-in-1 Styling Pomade

Overall, I think Dippity Do has done a great job of responding to men’s needs and each one of these products has clearly been designed for different hair types and styles. The best part is that each of these 180 g containers cost under $7 each! You can find them at Walmart, Loblaws, London Drugs, Jean Coutu and online at www.dippitydomen.com.

Keep looking phenomenal gentlemen.

Always from the heart,

Reza Jackson
